Managing business is never an easy job and encountering obstacles is inevitable. The path towards business is not always smooth-sailing and changes must be taken to overcome the obstacles. Below are the 5 common roadblocks when doing business.

Business Roadblock #1
Believing that being a good craftsman is all that’s needed to run a successful business
Many people erroneously believe that being an exceptional craftsman makes them qualified to operate a business in that work. They spend most of the time performing tasks that they are specialized in without planning the business system/marketing of their company.
Most of us know people like these: they must be at work every day in order to conduct their business. They believe that no one can do a better job than them since they are an expert in that field. Doing all the things including, checking emails, pack boxes, write invoices, and make sales call.
They are not willing to outsource the tasks to other people because many entrepreneurs think that they already know what they need to know and they don’t want to know what they don’t know! By having that mindset, the business will most certainly fail.
After not getting any results, they try to face it alone and get frustrated and tired. They feel overwhelmed and worry that they can’t do it all. They worry that others won’t do as well as them. They know that they should let go but they simply can’t. They fail to fix serious flaws and they ignore their customers.
They feel like they need to get away to relieve their stress and when they return, the work has piled up and they have lost money, customers and opportunities.
Tips for Staying On Course
- Realize that being good at something does not mean that you will succeed at running a business.
- Play to your strengths, passion and skills. Do what you do the best and allow others to help you. Build a team of people who are more skilled than you in key areas.
- Seek support from friends, family and colleagues.
- Automate-With the current technology, it is never been easier to communicate with prospects and customers.
Business Roadblock #2
Lack of Clearly Articulated Goals
Writing down the short and long term goals increases your chances of getting more results. By having a specific goal, you will need to know what you are supposed to do and hence, taking more action towards it.
A lot of people don’t write down as they think that they already know what they want to do. I would always write down the task that I aimed to do for the week/day and will only change to another task after completing my previous task.
There will be some times that we tend to do other things as well but it is perfectly alright as long as we have a plan in mind.
Tips for Staying On Course
- Identify your lifestyle goals –What do you want in the future? More money, more freedom? More time with your family?
- Visualize – Once you have developed your goals, think about what you want to achieve for the short and long term. Make sure your objectives support your lifestyle goals.
- Develop a plan. It’s time to work on the “SMART” techniques. Is your plan Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic And Time-Based?
- Break down the plan – Divide your action steps into smaller parts and eat “that elephant one bite at a time”
Business Roadblock #3
Lack of Focus, Distraction and over commitment
By not having a business plan, people tend to wander aimlessly from one thing to another and tend to juggle multiple projects at a time. They get distracted easily and constantly changing methods.
By constantly changing methods, you will definitely get bored, exhausted. Confused and frustrated. Thus their priorities have messed up and they do not know what to do.
Sooner or later, they start to procrastinate, a common human nature which everyone tend to do. They start to take shortcuts for task completion and not giving their best shot.
By not removing the roots of procrastination, it is impossible to have a profitable online business.
Tips for Staying On Course
- Prioritize-Create a to-do list and number your tasks according to their importance.
- Master your time well – You are in control of your time so plan your schedule well.
- Slow down- Rome wasn’t built in a day and your business won’t be either
- Learn to say no.Realize that when you take on something, you will need to sacrifice other things. Drop time consuming jobs and delegate more. Unloading your schedule will increase your ability to focus.
Business Roadblock #4
Conflicting Intentions
Conflicting intentions are equal-opportunity blockers and they come in every imaginable form. Our goals are basically opposing one another and we are not willing to do the things that we don’t like.
For example:
“I want to be rich but rich people are selfish and arrogant”
“I am trying to increase my business but I’m afraid that I am not able to handle it.”
“I want to be successful but I am afraid of failing”
These are some of the common thoughts and they feel trapped and confused.
Tips for Staying on Course
- Make yourself a promise and write it down. For example, I promise that I will read one hour five times per week.
By doing so, you are actually taking action towards your goal. Every action makes it closer to your success.
Business Roadblock #5
No Systematized Processes
One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs commit is failing to document, systematize, and communicate key processes, instructions and information. They keep information in their head without writing down, thinking that they can remember it.
The system of any business task is dependent upon three things:
- System. The overall structure, plan, and organization of tasks.
- Processes. Detailed action items associated with accomplishing objectives, including the specific tasks, timeline and person responsible for completing them.
- People. Those who are accountable for completing the work.
When one, or more, of these pieces are overlooked, a business becomes vulnerable and people start to waste time and get confused. Solving problems is a nightmare and training people to do anything can be difficult and time-consuming.
Tips for Staying on Course
- Manage processes, not people. Focus less on handling people and more on providing clear task to people.
- Automate – Take advantage of affordable, easy to use software to help you to organize and systemize your business processes.
For example, an auto responder will be needed to follow up on your customers.Autoresponders can help to save a lot of time sending manual emails.
Develop a simple, step by step system for completing tasks. Setting a deadline for the people is efficient in completing work.

I really like the tips in these blogs since I am new to this.
